Omicron type of corona virus has been identified for the first time in Bangladesh. Two members of the Bangladesh women's cricket team returned to Zimbabwe.
Health Minister Zahid Malek told reporters from Dhaka Children's Hospital on Saturday (December 11th).
He said a new type of corona had been identified in the bodies of two cricketers of the national women's cricket team who had returned from Zimbabwe. They do not have any complex symptoms. They are in isolation in a hotel in the capital.
The girls' ODI World Cup qualifiers have been postponed midway due to the new type of corona Omicron. Bangladesh women's team qualifies for the ODI World Cup for the first time as it is ahead in the rankings. The girls were doing institutional quarantine back from Zimbabwe. After returning home on December 1, Nigar Sultana's team entered the five-day official quarantine at Hotel Sonargaon. When their samples were tested, the reports of the two women cricketers came back positive. The genome sequence test at the Institute of Pathology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) of the Department of Health later confirmed that the type caught in their body was omikron
