This year, Bangladesh is ranked 106th in the international passport ranking. In the list of 40 destinations where Bangladeshi passport holders get visa-free entry, many neighboring countries are ahead of Bangladesh. In the ranking of 2021, Maldives is 8, India is 90, Bhutan is 97, and even Sri Lanka is one step above Bangladesh. But only a decade and a half ago, Bangladesh was ahead of India in the passport ranking.
Bangladesh was ranked 7th and India was ranked 61st in the 2006 Henley Passport Index. In other words, in the last 15 years, Bangladesh has slipped 40 steps in the passport ranking. And 10 steps behind in the last one year. In 2020, Bangladesh was 97th in this list.
But Bangladeshi passport holders should be satisfied when calculating visa-free access. Because, in 2006, Bangladeshis got visa-free access to only 26 destinations. There are now a dozen more such places than that. Moreover, now that the Henley Passport Index has been compiled, considering the access of 199 passports to 227 destinations, the number was much lower in 2008.
In 2010 (Ranking 85) and 2014 (Ranking 6), visa-free entry was the highest in Bangladeshi passports. At that time, Bangladeshis could travel to 42 destinations without a visa in advance. 2016 was the worst year for Bangladeshis in terms of visa-free access. At that time, the number of such destinations dropped to 36 (ranking 95). Later the situation improved again. Last year the number of such destinations was 41, but this year it has dropped to 40.
At present, on-arrival visas are available in 19 of the 40 destinations for visa-free entry for Bangladeshi passport holders. Electronic visa is available in Sri Lanka. And nothing related to visa is required in the remaining 20 destinations.
Currently 13 destinations with On Arrival Visa are available in Africa (Madagascar, Mauritania, Mozambique, Rwanda, Uganda, etc.), three in Asia (Maldives, Nepal, Timor-Leste), one in the US (Bolivia) and two in Oceania (Samoa, Tuvalu). There are territories.
Two countries in Africa (Gambia, Lesotho), two in Asia (Bhutan, Indonesia), 11 in the Caribbean (Bahamas, Jamaica, Barbados, Grenada, etc.) and five in Oceania (Vanuatu, Fiji, etc.) are offering visa-free travel to Bangladeshis.
